As a professional pet photographer (I only photograph animals, no humans at all) I am always asked by people why they cannot get their dogs to look the way they do in my photos. At first I usually tell them it is because I am a gifted genius and they are not…and walk away. After a few moments of stunned silence, I return with a smile, assure them that it’s nothing too difficult and offer a few pointers. I also tell them that they should be able to photograph their dog better than any professional because they have something the pros do not and is the most important part of photographing dogs: time and patience with that dog. So if you really want to get the best shots of your dog, here is my advice, as this is the way I would do it if you paid me.
Your puppy has no concept of where and when he should go to the toilet and until he is about six months old he will have none or very limited control over when he goes, nevermind where. A puppy’s gotta do what a puppy’s got to do. Let’s face it a new home and family, possibly an older pet are just to exciting and interesting to him learn about, so all his concentration is spoken for already! It’s up to you to watch his behaviour and set times during his day to focus what little attention he has on the more basic aspects of fitting into family life. With consistency, patience, lots of praise plus a mop and some Stain and Odour Remover eventually your little puppy will grow into a young dog who has learnt some bladder control and where it is acceptable for him to relieve it.
Training your dog is a time-intensive project that requires patience and solid strategy. Most inexperienced dog owners ultimately fail at training their pet because they either lack the knowledge of what to, or they become frustrated when their dog does not respond. This failure leads many to turn to the plethora of dog training books available on the internet. There are a number of excellent resources available, but what exactly makes up a good dog training book? Here are some important things to research before buying any training product.
There has been a lot of publicity in the last few years and even recently about dogs being left in hot overheating cars in the hot summers, by now most people know that hot cars are a real danger for dogs but there are still some of you out there that don’t seem to take the situation serious enough, or don’t realize how quickly the situation can change.
Every year dogs die because they are trapped in a heated car while their owners go into a shop, store, or any other situation when the dog will be left for long periods of time.
Dog tags are an essential and very cheap form of dog identification, although many of today’s dog or pet owners don’t even use dog tags, it is your best chance of never loosing your dog or quickly finding your dog in an emergency.
Dog tags are essential in many occasions and situations that may never have thought of before it actually happens. A simple loud noise or bang, unfamiliar face, or a cat the other side of the street in your neighborhood is enough to scare many dogs into fleeing for safety, and getting lost in or around your neighborhood.
This is a story about a road trip I took with my dog this summer. This is an informational story that will provide some insight as to what you need to consider when you travel with your pet. My dog’s safety while in the car had to be considered. I needed to know where to make pit stops along the way. And I needed to know what hotels would allow her to stay.
First, know what is normal. It is important that you be able to assess your pet’s physical condition in order to evaluate his needs, especially since many animals are stoic and will not show pain or discomfort. One of the MOST important factors in evaluating your pet’s condition is to know what is normal for him or her. Take time BEFORE an emergency to check your pet’s normal temperature, pulse, color and respiration.
Seeing eye dogs who are also referred as assistance dogs are trained to guide the blind and the visually impaired around obstacles that they would come across in daily life activities. Although these highly training guide dogs are able to guide their masters around obstacles being color blind they are not able to tell the difference between different signs that they could come across. This issues is taken care off by the visually impaired person as they are given training for these issues in mobility classes.
In most countries Seeing Eye dogs are the only animals that are exempt from restrictions on animals in public places such as restaurants.
Not so very long ago, the idea of insuring a pet was almost laughable. It was the sort of thing reserved for those who owned posh pooches, the crème de la crème of the pet world. It made sense to insure pedigreed pups and their feline companions when they cost so much. Things have taken a turn, though. Rising vet fees and publicity about the expenses of owning and caring for a pet have prompted many people to invest in insurance for their pets.
